Fright Night

We are very excited about tomorrow night's Family Fright Night.  Today, we had to help persuade Mrs. Gresko on what to pick as her Halloween costume.  There are a lot of creative minds in 5B!

Cow Plop

Well, Arctic Rose didn't plop while visiting us at St. Jude.  Our class did win a $50 good neighbor prize in the drawing.  It was a beautiful afternoon to enjoy time with our classmates and a large dairy cow.

Race for Education

We are ready to race!

Things are moving and grooving this Fall in 5B.  We have completed our first Theme in ELA and our first unit in Science. We are starting to learn more about the Sacraments of Initiation in  Religion.  We are creating stop motion videos about Baptism.  They will be posted when competed.  Next Friday is jam packed with excitement:  Race for Education, Talent Day, and Cow Plop.  Will our school race and meet our goal?  What fabulous talents do our students have?  Will the cow plop on our land deed?  What is your prognostication?

This is ELA?

The fifth graders are using the iMovie app to create book trailers based on a nonfiction baseball book. We went outside to get some authentic baseball pictures and videos.

9/15/14

Welcome back to full week #2! We are off and running in our subjects. Be sure to be working on your written and studying homework! There are tests in Religion, Science, Reading, and Spelling this week. Can you name the 7 sacraments? What are the liturgical seasons and their colors? Can you describe a force? What do you do to calculate work? Think about these things as you are studying.

5th and 6th Grade Book Club

Join Us for Book Club! The first meeting of the 5th and 6th grade book club will be held on Wednesday, October 8 from 3:30 to 4:30 in the library Bring a friend! Snacks will be provided. We will discuss the book Rules by Cynthia Lord Twelve-year-old Catherine just wants a normal life. Which is near impossible when you have a brother with autism and a family that revolves around his disability. She's spent years trying to teach David the rules from "a peach is not a funny-looking apple" to "keep your pants on in public"---in order to head off David's embarrassing behaviors. But the summer Catherine meets Jason, a surprising, new sort-of friend, and Kristi, the next-door friend she's always wished for, it's her own shocking behavior that turns everything upside down and forces her to ask: What is normal?

Today we take to heart our school theme of "Choose Kind".  Hopefully by choosing kind, our world will become a more peaceful and kind-hearted place.

We congratulate Sammy on being elected our Student Council homeroom representative.  Thanks to all the students who stood up and gave a speech to the class.  Mrs. Gresko was glad that she didn't have to vote, since it must have been a hard decision to pick.

We have completed our first week of school with a great start!

We started our subjects including a science experiment. We predicted what would happen to gummy bears when placed into different "pools" of liquids. We were surprised with some of the results. A great experiment means getting to snack on our test subjects.

Welcome back to another school year! The 5B class of 2014-2015 is a wonderful group of 23 children. We are looking forward to learning, growing, and exploring this year. We take to our our school theme, Choose Kind. The inspiration came from our summer reading book, Wonder.
